Lewis has more than 25 years experience as a lawyer, almost all of which has been gained in the area of commercial litigation.
Lewis commenced his legal career in Johannesburg, South Africa, and became a partner in one of Johannesburg's leading commercial law firms practising in the areas of commercial litigation and insolvency. He migrated to Wellington, New Zealand in 1988 and continued to practice in these areas, as well as in the areas of professional indemnity and marine insurance, at a major trans-Tasman law firm where he became a senior associate. He moved to Perth in 1993 to join one of Australia's pre-eminent law firms where he also became a senior associate.
In the last 16 years in Perth he has worked as a commercial litigator in a range of areas including insurance, workers' compensation, occupational health and safety, commercial disputes, insolvency, property and planning disputes, trade practices, competition and taxation litigation.
Prior to joining IRDI Legal in April 2009 Lewis was employed as a senior lawyer by the Australian Government Solicitor in the areas of trade practices, competition and taxation litigation. This provided him with a unique understanding of the government regulators in these areas.
Lewis has also completed training as a mediator and is a firm believer in the processes of alternative dispute resolution as a cost-effective solution to client's legal problems.
