David Thompson is a special counsel at IRDI Legal, practising primarily in the areas of intellectual property law, commercial litigation, insolvency and reconstruction, information law and electronic commerce.
David was admitted to practice in 1997. Prior to joining IRDI Legal, he practised at Hely Edgar, Phillips Fox, and Lavan Legal.
David has a Master of Laws degree in intellectual property law, and extensive litigation and commercial experience in obtaining, defending, commercialising, and enforcing all forms of intellectual property rights, including trade marks, copyrights, patents, designs, trade secrets and confidential information. David's practice also encompasses domain names, privacy law, electronic commerce issues, information technology agreements, and therapeutic goods regulation.
David has extensive experience in the areas of insolvency and business reconstruction. He has acted for numerous liquidators, administrators and receivers, providing advice and representation in the conduct of their administrations, the recovery of assets and the preparation of deeds of company arrangement. He has also represented creditors in initiating liquidations and provisional liquidations, company directors in the course of external administrations, and has represented and advised both trustees and debtors in bankruptcy proceedings and administrations.
