David Thompson is Special Counsel at IRDI Legal, practicing primarily in the areas of intellectual property law, information law, and electronic commerce.

David was admitted to practice in 1997.  Prior to joining IRDI Legal, he practiced at Hely Edgar, Phillips Fox, and Lavan Legal.  David has a Master of Laws degree in intellectual property law, and extensive litigation and commercial experience in obtaining, defending, commercialising, and enforcing all forms of intellectual property rights, including trade marks, copyrights, patents, designs, trade secrets and confidential information.  David’s practice also encompasses domain names, privacy law, electronic commerce issues, information technology agreements, and therapeutic goods regulation.  David has also had extensive experience in the areas of corporate insolvency and business reconstruction.
